Township Manager Shannon updated trustees on infrastructure, public-works events and planning during the Dec. 2 meeting.
Shannon said staff continue to work with Spicer to secure permitting from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) for the Cass River Trail. He reported a recent meeting with the intermediate school district about the future of Miracle Field and facilities; the building-and-grounds committee for the ISD is scheduled to meet on Dec. 10 to continue that discussion.
Manager Shannon described a Dixie Highway lift-station incident on Nov. 25 in which a pump intake was found clogged with clothing; crews removed debris and returned the pump to service after inspection and clearing. He reported wastewater plant sample results for mercury, selenium, chloride and sulfide were "far below allowable concentrations," as recorded in the plant performance notes. The minutes do not include numeric lab results.
On planning, Shannon said staff and the road commission met with representatives of Love's regarding traffic for a proposed expansion; the road-flow was left in place and the expansion plan was approved by the planning commission. Plans were also submitted for a Dollar Tree in the old Rite Aid site and those applications remain under review. On finance, Shannon said work has begun to identify matching funds following an appropriations announcement. No public comment on these items is recorded in the minutes.
