Bridgeport board approves water-rate increase to cover higher Saginaw wholesale charges

The Bridgeport Charter Township Board unanimously approved Resolution R25-11 on Sept. 2, raising the township's average residential water rate from $5.03 to $5.65 per 1,000 gallons and increasing the quarterly ready-to-serve fee from $35.78 to $43.40.
Township officials said the change was prompted by a July 2025 wholesale rate increase from the City of Saginaw. The Michigan Rural Water Association presented a rate-evaluation to the board, and Township DPW/Water Superintendent Ronald Boensch submitted two memoranda recommending the specific adjustments to the water rate and ready-to-serve charge.
The board approved the resolution on a motion by Trustee Placher, seconded by Trustee McFarland; the roll-call vote recorded all seven members in favor (Placher, Nelson, Evans, Kuznicki, Williams, Foxx, McFarland).
Under the adopted schedule, the residential volumetric charge (WA) will be $5.65 per 1,000 gallons. The ready-to-serve (WT) quarterly fee will increase by $7.62 per quarter, a difference the township estimated at $30.48 annually per account. Officials said the increase is intended to offset the township's higher wholesale charge from the City of Saginaw, which the township stated as the primary driver of the change.
The resolution passed at the meeting did not specify an implementation date beyond the language in R25-11; the board packet and Boensch's memoranda were entered into the record for the item.
