Bridgeport manager outlines grants, IT review and roundabout starting next week

Township Manager Shannon presented a written Manager's Report (Attachment G) at the Bridgeport Charter Township special meeting on July 15, detailing administrative, grant and public works updates the board entered into the record.
On IT: Shannon said staff are addressing township IT needs and reviewing the current agreement with incumbent vendor Abadata while soliciting quotes from three other providers. The board directed staff to continue seeking proposals and reported the matter will return as needed for board action.
On economic development: the township is reviving efforts to pursue Redevelopment Ready Community (RRC) certification. Shannon said $10,000 is available from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) has voted to match that amount; staff are preparing an RFP to invite professional firms to respond.
On CHILL grant work: the report notes 20 applicants are in the CHILL grant process; staff will reach out to additional residents if funding allows. Manager Shannon said each property will undergo an environmental Tier 2 review to ensure compliance before homeowner repairs proceed.
On roads and bridges: Public Works reported regular chip seal operations have started and small stone seals are likely to begin the following week. Paving on Iowa is expected to start soon, while paving on Dixie Court and Mill Street is scheduled for August. Construction of a roundabout at Sheridan and Curtis will begin next week; staff said detours will be posted and estimated the project will last about eight weeks. The manager's report notes the roundabout is being funded primarily with Federal Safety Funds because of the intersection's crash history. MDOT bridge projects over I-75 in the township are expected to be completed by the end of August.
Finally, Shannon reported Michigan Rural Water is close to completing a water rate analysis; staff plan to bring that analysis to the board at the August meeting.
Next steps listed in the report include issuing the RFP for RRC services, continuing IT vendor evaluations, proceeding with environmental reviews for CHILL applicants, and posting detour information before roundabout construction.
