Bridgeport board approves wastewater rate increase, rejects lower-rate amendment

Trustee Placher moved to adopt the resolution; the motion passed on roll call with five ayes, one nay and one absence. Trustee Eddie Foxx proposed an amendment to set the commodity charge at $9.43 per 1,000 gallons and the ready-to-serve rate at $37, but his motion failed to gain a second and was not considered.
Board members and staff said the adjustments respond to rising operating costs for the wastewater system. The vote leaves the new rates in place as the board approved them; the transcript does not specify an effective date for the increases.
At the same meeting the board also approved an increase to wastewater laboratory fees (Resolution R25-13), a separate item. WWTP Superintendent Jamie Sochocki told the board that the lab has seen higher costs for supplies and chemicals and that performing lab work for other municipalities generates revenue that helps offset those increases.
The board's action will affect township residential and commercial utility bills; the meeting minutes do not include an estimate of the average household impact. The board recorded the roll-call vote as Placher Y, Evans Y, Kuznicki Y, Williams Y, McFarland Y, Foxx N; Treasurer Patrick Nelson was absent.
