Organizers finalize Old Home Day activities, seek volunteers and signage

The OHD Committee met April 14 at Academy Hall to finalize plans for this year’s Old Home Day, confirming several children’s attractions, asking members to recruit volunteers and assigning outreach tasks for signage and parade coordination.
Chair Jennifer Hoyt said she will research options for water misters and sprinklers and will contact Taylor rental before the next meeting. She also said the committee lacks experience with social platforms suggested in an email from Mike Prete — TikTok, Snapchat and Instagram — and agreed to table expanding social-media outreach until volunteers with those skills join.
Ex Officio Jim Hoyt reviewed the activities planned for the event: two bounce houses, one trampoline-type activity and bike racing. “There will not be a Rock Climbing Wall this year,” Jim Hoyt said. Jennifer Hoyt said she is unsure whether face painting will be offered because volunteers who used to help now have full-time jobs, but she expects to manage glitter tattoos herself if necessary.
New volunteer Sarah MacDuffie said she is willing to keep committee meeting minutes when available. Member Mac Johnston moved to approve the draft minutes from the Feb. 10, 2026 meeting; Jim Hoyt seconded and the motion passed with all present voting to approve.
On signage, Jim Hoyt said he will call a local Manchester business about making a large road-facing sign; Sarah MacDuffie mentioned an in-town vendor and will provide contact information to Jennifer Hoyt. Jim Hoyt will also seek pricing for a banner to read “Second Saturday in August.”
Under new business, Jennifer Hoyt said she will ask Secretary Nathan Irving whether he will lead parade organization and try to recruit a marching band (listed in the minutes as the “MN marching band”). Mac Johnston requested Cruise Night flyers and Hoyt said she will prepare them before the next meeting, set for May 12 at 7:15 p.m.
During public comment, Dora Rapalyea asked whether the Chicken BBQ will continue beyond this year; Hoyt said that decision depends on who volunteers to head the event next year. The meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
