Council receives clean FY2024 audit; presents awards and retirement recognition

City auditors told the Thomasville City Council on Nov. 18 that the city's FY2024 audited financial statements earned an "unmodified opinion" with no negative findings.
Jill Vang of Martin Starnes & Associates presented the audit results and said the complete slideshow is available from the City Clerk upon request. The council also issued proclamations and awards: Council Member Payton Williams presented a proclamation for Hospice and Palliative Care Month to Adam White of Hospice of Davidson County; Mayor Pro Tem JacQuez Johnson presented an Order of the Long Leaf Pine award to Kirby E. Lambeth and Old North State awards to a group of state employees for 20+ years of service.
Council approved a resolution to award a badge and service sidearm to retiring police lieutenant Jamie McClanathan; Police Chief Dustin Carter presented the sidearm and thanked McClanathan for "nearly 25 years of service to the City." Keith Tobin, president of the Thomasville Chamber of Commerce, also used the public forum to thank council and staff for support of Everybody's Day: "We couldn't do it without you."
