Town Manager John O'Daniel told the council that the town's solid-waste and recycling contract with GFL is set to expire June 30, 2026, and that GFL has submitted a five-year renewal proposal that would continue service with only annual CPI adjustments.
Staff compared GFL's proposed rates with other jurisdictions in the county and concluded Atlantic Beach remains competitively priced. Councilmembers praised recent service improvements, including higher-quality trash cans provided by the vendor and truck-mounted camera systems that assist in resolving disputes about missed pickups.
Council reached consensus to place approval of a contract extension with GFL on the February regular meeting agenda for formal action. No vote to execute a contract extension was taken at the worksession.
