Unionville Council asks staff for consolidated IT proposal after Spectrum, Seedspark bids

The Town Council asked staff to prepare an updated spreadsheet of internet and webhosting quotes and provide a recommendation covering all of the Town’s IT needs following presentations from local vendors.
Finance Officer Darrell Baucom told Council that Seedspark reduced its monthly rate from $1,082 to $574 and that using WordPress hosting at $65/month would be substantially cheaper than Prismo at $350/month. Brian Daniel of Spectrum presented a proposal recommending an upgrade from coaxial service to fiber and offered a fully managed firewall, switch and access point; Daniel recommended a five-year schedule for firewall replacement. Deputy Clerk Melody Braswell noted Spectrum's quote did not include webhosting, meaning the Town would need a separate hosting provider if it selected Spectrum for network services.
Commissioner Jeff Broadaway moved and Commissioner Chad Simpson seconded that staff provide an updated spreadsheet with all quotes and scenarios and a recommendation for networking through webhosting; the Council approved the motion unanimously. Staff will return with comparative pricing and a recommended configuration for Council consideration.
