Unionville reports $3.9 million cash balance; council to revisit internet-provider decision after additional quotes

Finance Officer Darrell Baucom told the Town Council on Sept. 16 that Unionville’s cash balance stood at $3.9 million, earning roughly 4.6% interest, and that the Town received a $15,000 county grant for the Noel Williams Park design. He said recent expenses including dues, liability insurance, payroll and office supplies totaled about $61,000 and produced revenue exceeding expenses by roughly $80,000.
Baucom outlined internet-service options after a Seedspark price increase of $150 per month. He said that increase pushes Seedspark toward almost $13,000 annually. By comparison, CompuNet World quoted $450 per month (about $5,400 per year) plus a $850 initial configuration and migration fee. Baucom also presented one webmaster/hosting estimate from WordPress totaling about $6,180 per year with upfront costs of about $1,450, and said the Town is awaiting additional quotes from CivicPlus and Spectrum Government. Council will revisit the matter at its Oct. 21 meeting.
On a motion by Gene Price, seconded by Jaren Simpson, Council unanimously approved payment of pending bills including Seedspark, Southdata and NFocus Planning.
