The Town of Unionville on Feb. 17 presented N.C. House Representative Dean Arp with the town’s "Unionville Person of the Month" plaque and a gift card after Arp intervened on Feb. 3 to rescue a homeowner in a wheelchair from a house fire.
Mayor Baucom introduced Rep. Arp to the council and described the rescue before presenting the award, saying the action merited local recognition. Rep. Arp told the council he believes “the Father was there and the Holy Spirit brought him to the right place at the right time,” and said the episode gave him a glimpse of what professional rescuers do every day.
Commissioner Gene Price said he had seen the story on the news and called Arp “a real-life hero,” adding that most people would not have turned back to investigate the scene. The council voiced appreciation for Arp’s actions and approved the presentation.
