Pastor offers to donate sidewalk to Town Hall; council defers decision until contractor issues resolved

Pastor Gennady Maryanov of Word of Grace Bible Church asked the Unionville Town Council on Aug. 19 for permission to donate and have a licensed, insured contractor install a sidewalk up to four feet wide linking the Town Hall parking lot to the street.
The pastor provided a sketch of the proposed sidewalk and said the work would be completed by a professional, insured contractor. Commissioner Andrew Benton asked whether outside agencies may make improvements on town-owned property. Town Attorney R. Kenneth Helms, Jr. said it likely would not be a problem but that the town's required forms should be completed. Helms also recommended resolving outstanding issues with the Miles McClellan parking-lot contract before approving any third-party improvements.
The consensus of the council was to wait until the Miles McClellan contract matters are fully resolved and retain any required paperwork before approving the sidewalk donation.
