Calhoun County extends local emergency declaration as COVID-19 cases surge

The Calhoun County Board of Commissioners voted Oct. 15, 2020 to extend the county's Local Emergency Declaration in response to a reported surge in COVID-19 cases. Administrator/Controller Kelli Scott briefed the board on rising cases and said the county will update its COVID-19 Response and Preparedness Plan and related policies to match recent emergency orders and rules from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) and Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA), and to align employee self-screening with the latest CDC guidance.
The board approved the extension by roll-call vote (Res.174-2020). No legislative action beyond extending the declaration was adopted at the meeting; Administrator Scott described continuing internal steps, including staff coordination with Human Resources and updates to employee screening and benefit discussions.
