Calhoun County commissioners approve routine appointments, chip-seal contract and $4.67M in claims

The Calhoun County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 4 approved a consent agenda of committee and liaison appointments for terms generally expiring Dec. 31, 2022, including representation on the Board of Public Health, BCATS, LDFA, local development authorities, and multiple advisory committees. The consent agenda was approved 7-0 under Res.020-2021 (moved by Commissioner Kathy-Sue Vette and seconded by Commissioner Derek King).
Separately, commissioners approved RFB#122-20, the county chip-seal slag contract, noting the incumbent Yellow Rose Transport was the only bidder. Road Department Manager John Midgley participated by Zoom to answer questions. The board approved Res.022-2021 (moved by Commissioner Kathy-Sue Vette; seconded by Commissioner Tommy Miller) by a 7-0 roll-call vote.
The board also approved claims payable for Jan. 15–Jan. 28, 2021 in the amount of $4,667,673.23 under the resolution recorded in the minutes as Res.023-2020. Commissioner Kathy-Sue Vette moved and Commissioner Jake Smith seconded the claims motion; the roll-call vote was 7-0.
Other business included brief committee reports (Marshall schools bond discussion, Summit Pointe youth services report) and community recognitions: Commissioner Vette thanked Deputy Clerk Susan Connolly for public-service work and Commissioner Rochelle Hatcher recognized resident Katherine King on her 90th birthday; Commissioner Gary Tompkins noted resident Ellen Goodwill’s 114th birthday. Chair Steve Frisbie adjourned the meeting at 7:48 p.m.
