The Calhoun County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 18 authorized Delinquent Tax Anticipation Notes to distribute money owed to taxing jurisdictions for property taxes that were returned delinquent on March 1, 2020.
Administrator/Controller Kelli Scott told commissioners the notes assist the county in paying all taxing jurisdictions their share of delinquent real-property taxes. Treasurer Brian Wensauer and Assistant Treasurer Melinda Weaver were present via Zoom to answer questions.
Commissioner Gary Tompkins moved to approve the resolution; Commissioner Kathy‑Sue Vette seconded. The motion passed on a roll-call vote of 7–0 (Res.027-2021).
Why it matters: The financing mechanism allows the county to advance funds so taxing jurisdictions are not delayed while delinquent tax collections are settled, a common practice when large amounts revert to delinquency. The board record does not specify the dollar amount of the notes or the repayment terms.
Next steps: The resolution was approved at the meeting; further administrative steps to issue the notes would follow under the Treasurer's office and county administration.
