Silver Lake opens bids for community center; architect to review two proposals

The Town of Silver Lake opened two sealed bids for a proposed community center at a special public meeting on April 28. Jim Hoch, an architect with Hoch & Associates, read the bid amounts aloud and said he will review the calculations and supporting documentation before returning a recommendation to the council.
Hoch reported two base bids: FCI Construction submitted a base bid of $3,590,000.00, and Hamilton Builders submitted a base bid of $3,929,674.00. While reading the submissions, Hoch referenced bid forms, bonds, alternate pricing and other standard bid documents and said the submissions will undergo a thorough review.
Council President Medard (Hugh) Murfin called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. The minutes and attendance list show that Council Member Gloria (Jean) Weller and Clerk-Treasurer Tonya Conley were present; Nichole Taylor and the town attorney, Austin Rovenstine, were noted as absent.
After the bids were opened, Weller made a motion to adjourn at 5:06 p.m.; Murfin seconded the motion and the ayes were called. The motion carried and the meeting was adjourned. Hoch remained briefly after adjournment to continue verifying bid packet items.
The council has not yet acted on the bids. Hoch said he will complete his review and submit a recommendation to the council; no timeline for that recommendation was specified in the meeting record.
