The Town of Schererville Board of Safety unanimously approved a contingent reinstatement for tow firm Alpro on July 9, allowing the company to rejoin the town's rotation once it provides a certificate of insurance and a surety bond.
Police Chief Peter Sormoz said Alpro submitted a signed tow service agreement and that delays were caused by holidays and interoffice processing at the insurer. "They're working on the proper documentation that we require, and they're hoping to get it to us here in the near future," Sormoz said. He asked the board to approve a contingency so Alpro could be added back into rotation promptly when the paperwork arrives rather than waiting until the next meeting.
Board action: The board moved, seconded, and approved the contingency unanimously.
Why it matters: maintaining an adequate rotation of tow firms affects police operations and response times for vehicle incidents. The approval is contingent on the vendor providing required insurance and bonding documentation.
Documentation note: the vendor's name appears as both "Alpro" and "All pro" in the meeting record; the town file should be consulted for the vendor's official business name and insurance filings.
