At the July 8 City Commission meeting resident Barry Spiegel told the panel he appreciates that his street was repaved but raised safety and maintenance problems tied to a neighboring property’s cleanup.
“I've lived here, over 25 years in Parkland,” Spiegel said, and described a nearby five‑acre parcel where heavy equipment was brought in to clear land for sale. He said the equipment was unloaded on the new pavement and “they dig up the road that just got repaved,” and that code enforcement had visited but taken no apparent enforcement action after his emails.
Spiegel also urged the city to post no‑parking signs where shoulders are narrow and cited safety incidents, saying “7 cars have gone in the canal since the project started already.” He asked the commission to make clear that property owners who damage public streets will be required to pay for repairs and to clarify which office residents should contact when enforcement is needed.
Mayor Walker acknowledged the comment and the commission said staff would follow up; Spiegel said he had not received a substantive response to earlier email inquiries.
