Athens board approves rezoning, WWTP pay requests, ordinance updates and routine business
Summary
On Sept. 22 the Athens Village Board approved rezoning of 208 Allen Street, paid $66,359.15 to August Winter & Sons for WWTP chemical additions, approved a $49,939.77 payment batch, approved an $11,100 engineering proposal, granted picnic licenses and other routine actions.
The Athens Village Board on Sept. 22 approved a package of routine measures, including land-use, budgetary and administrative items.
Rezoning and ordinances: The board approved a Plan Commission recommendation to rezone village-owned property at 208 Allen Street from C-1 Conservancy District to R-2 Single-Family Residential to create a residential building lot (motion by Trustee Perkins, second by Trustee Brodziski). The board also approved the repeal and replacement of Ordinance 480-28 (Wellhead Protection Overlay District) and later approved repeal and replacement of Ordinance 161-21D(1) so operator's license fees will be prescribed in the Fee Schedule rather than in the ordinance.
Payments and contracts: The board approved payment of checks #28192 through #28242 totaling $49,939.77 (motion by Trustee Thorson, second by Trustee Brodziski) and approved Pay Request #1 and #2 to August Winter & Sons totaling $66,359.15 for the wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) chemical addition project (motion by Trustee Perkins, second by Trustee Socha). The minutes also record that August Winter(s) has started work on the WWTP project. The board approved MTS Engineering's proposal of $11,100 for the 2026 Love Lane project (motion by Trustee Brodziski, second by Trustee Socha).
Community items: The board approved picnic licenses for Athens Sno-Pak Snowmobile Club and Wausau Noon Optimists for Oct. 11, 2025, approved a $1,000 donation to the Athens Old Timers Band (motion by Trustee Thorson, second by Trustee Guden), and approved a Memorandum of Understanding for election services with Marathon County (motion by Trustee Perkins, second by Trustee Thorson).
