The Athens Village Board adopted the 2026 Annual Budget and established the village property tax levy at its Nov. 24, 2025 meeting. The board approved Resolution 2025-9 on a motion by Trustee Thorson, seconded by Trustee Brodziski; the motion carried.
The board also approved Resolution 2025-10 to adopt the 2026 Water and Sewer Department budgets (motion by Trustee Perkins, seconded by Trustee Thorson) and Resolution 2025-11 to set wages for elected and non-elected village employees for 2026 (motion by Trustee Thorson, seconded by Trustee Brodziski). Those motions also carried.
Trustee Thorson, reporting from the Finance & Personnel Committee, said the committee had reviewed the preliminary budget, proposed changes to the Personnel Manual and board member compensation during its Oct. 27, 2025 meeting. The committee minutes were approved earlier in the meeting.
On routine finance business the board approved payment of checks numbered 28312 through 28367 totaling $364,687.82, with the exception of check #28336 for $2,500, which was not approved as part of that motion.
The board's adoption of the budget and associated resolutions sets the village'9s spending and revenue priorities for 2026 and provides the fiscal authority for operating and capital activities described in the adopted documents. The board adjourned at 7:28 PM.
