State Fair agriculture department restructures, opens Livestock Manager position

The Nebraska State Fair’s agriculture department reported organizational changes and hiring activity at the Dec. 20 board meeting.
Agriculture Director Vaughn Sievers said the department is undergoing a restructure, hiring judges and issuing contracts for upcoming shows. He described efforts in the equine area, including work with the Bureau of Land Management to allow exhibitors to break horses and host educational shows in the Bull Riding Arena.
Staff announced the Livestock Manager position is open and that applications and interview scheduling are underway. Because the department is bringing on new personnel and reorganizing, Sievers said the board will table further livestock program improvements until the staffing changes are complete.
No formal board action was taken on restructuring or program changes Dec. 20; hiring and contract issuance are being handled through department staff processes.
