The Conway Branch Rail Trail Advisory Committee asked the Albany Selectmen to appoint an official town representative, and Selectmen discussed how to respond during the July 23 meeting.
Chair read the committee’s request and noted it was a new request for the board to name a representative. One Selectman suggested sending the request to the conservation commission for consideration. The Selectmen expressed differing views: one said they had little interest and preferred to “stay out of the woods,” while another warned that improving the rails could “turn into a 4 wheeler trail” and create traffic and recreational-use concerns.
Staff offered to follow up with the Rail Trail Advisory Committee to clarify whether they need a select board member as the official representative or whether a conservation commission member could serve. No formal appointment was made; the board asked staff to reach back to the committee and suggested conservation commission review as an option.
The Selectmen did not take further action at this meeting and did not set a date to revisit the request.
