Chief of Police Christopher Keaton and Sargent Brian Moffitt appeared before the Board on Jan. 28 to introduce Jason Steele as a candidate to fill the department's sixth officer vacancy.
Keaton introduced Steele and said he is a retired New York firefighter interested in serving Bartlett as a full-time police officer. Steele told the board he would like to become recertified as an emergency medical technician and said he grew up hiking in New Hampshire and wanted to serve the community now that his children are older.
Sargent Moffitt praised Steele's credentials, saying Steele is "above average," has served as a New York fire chief and is a Navy SEAL, and that he "will bring a lot to the table." Steele acknowledged that hiring would be subject to the Board of Selectmen's approval and said he was honored to be considered.
Selectmen asked brief questions about EMT recertification and police academy training; Steele said he expects to complete the academy. After a short exchange, the Chief, Sargent and Steele thanked the Board and left the meeting.
The minutes record the interview and endorsements but do not record any vote or hiring decision; further personnel actions, if any, will be subject to future board action.
