Commission advances plans for town beach kiosk, easement signs and boundary markers

Chris Fithian presented a draft proposal for a town beach kiosk at the Bartlett Conservation Commission's Nov. 10 meeting and the group discussed siting, content and materials.
Members agreed the kiosk should be placed on the north side of the river (the left side of the road after crossing the bridge) with the possibility of a small sign on the south side later. Potential kiosk content identified by the commission included basic rules of behavior (for example, no camping; carry in, carry out), a Saco watershed map, Leave No Trace educational materials, invasive species identification guidance and fishing regulation information.
Steve Frackleton will ask the Kennett shop teacher whether students could supply labor to build the kiosk; Colleen Ryan offered to donate extra metal roofing for that work. Chris Fithian will finalize the kiosk proposal for review at the next commission meeting and for subsequent sharing with the Select Board.
On the Stillings Grant easement, Chris reported that Alec Tarberry confirmed the Berry Company is willing to provide a sign for the donated conservation easement and that Chris' kiosk draft design could be reused. Chris said Minuteman Press suggested an aluminum/PVC composite for small boundary signs; Mike Morin suggested seeking a material without plastic and will research alternatives. The commission also agreed to make a plan to delineate the full Stillings Grant easement (new and old) before leaf-out next spring.
Assigned follow-ups from the meeting include Mike Morin contacting Tin Mountain and investigating boundary-marker materials, Steve asking the Kennett shop class about volunteer labor, and Chris finalizing the kiosk proposal; no formal votes were recorded.
