Council hears levee/wall update; staff seeking Army Corps, FEMA and VDEM guidance on funding

S5 cautioned that FEMA options are limited at present, describing FEMA as "in kind of a precarious situation," and said staff would continue pursuing alternatives while coordinating with county partners. "I'll try to reach out to VDEM again and get some details on any opportunities like that," S5 said.
S4 clarified the council's earlier sequencing: the pump house (a lower-cost item) was intended to be done first and the wall—a higher-cost element—scheduled later in the fiscal plan. S4 said confusion at a prior council meeting may have left the sequence unclear and restated the intended order and fiscal-year timing.
S5 also noted prior recurring support of about $20,000 that typically arrives in May from a partnering source and said staff would continue to verify historic funding records and follow up with county contacts. No formal commitment of town capital funds or a council vote took place during the update; staff will report back as grant discussions advance.
