Town staff presented a capital-maintenance summary that included a recommended $600 quote (installation included) to replace the farmers market sign and quotes to repair six pavilion fans and 22 lights.
Staff said the most competitive pavilion quote exceeded the current budget and recommended scoping the work to fit available funds so repairs could be completed before the market season. Councilors agreed prioritizing the permanent sign and pothole repairs in front of the market was appropriate and encouraged staff to return with scoped options and updated cost estimates.
Staff also said they are seeking a local carpenter to repair one of the Canal Basin hog-head displays and would follow up with display quotes next month. The council did not take a separate binding fiscal vote on the pavilion work at the meeting; staff was directed to refine scopes and pricing and to schedule repairs to minimize impact on Saturday market events.
The council asked staff to consider material choices that will resist wind damage (previous metal sign sheared off) and to keep a consistent appearance with other town signage.
