Planning commissioners object to town-council edits on in-progress comp-plan draft; one commissioner to resign

Commissioners expressed frustration that a town-council member had requested or been given access to a draft version of the comprehensive plan and made edits while the planning commission considered the document as a work product. "It's undermining to us and our work," one commissioner said, adding that volunteers are on a shoestring budget and feel burned out when their draft work is edited before it is finalized.

The commission discussed avenues for council feedback—through the liaison, public comment or appearing before the commission—and asked the planning-commission liaison to report back to council that editing an unfinished document is not the normal process and that the commission expects its work to be respected while in draft form. The liaison acknowledged the message and commissioners debated whether a motion should be made to add the concern to a future agenda; they opted to have the liaison report the concern as part of the liaison's regular updates.

Separately, a commissioner announced they will be moving out of town and resigning from the planning commission; members asked staff to begin the standard replacement process and to post the vacancy so candidates can apply.
