Shenandoah introduces three new police officers with varied local law-enforcement backgrounds

Police Chief Rodney Hensley introduced three new members of the Shenandoah Police Department at the March 10 council meeting and outlined their backgrounds and responsibilities.
Chief Hensley said Captain Nathan Baugher joined the department from the Page County Sheriff's Office, bringing experience as a former drug-task agent who has worked homicide and other investigations and attended FBI-led supervisory training. Officer William Hammer was introduced as a former Page County deputy with experience as a K-9 handler and a field-training officer; Hensley said Hammer has been a police officer for six years. Officer Samantha Mills was introduced with prior experience at the Page County Sheriff's Office as a certified jailer and as an animal-control officer.
Chief Hensley told the council that the Shenandoah Police Department will not assume Page County Animal Control duties; he said Officer Mills will lead town efforts to address animal-control issues. Mayor Clinton O. Lucas, Jr. welcomed the new officers and thanked them for attending the meeting.
The introductions followed a brief discussion of school-time traffic issues on Maryland Avenue; Chief Hensley said he has contacted a VDOT engineer and school officials to study traffic flow and recommend safety improvements.
