Luck board approves rezoning, hires full-time police officer and okays multiple event permits

The Luck Village Board on Oct. 9 approved a rezoning, authorized a new full-time police position and granted multiple event and street permits.
The board voted unanimously to rezone 211 E North Ave (Parcel #146-00153-0000 & 146-00127-0001) from G-1 Institutional District to R-1 Single Family Residential, following a Planning Commission recommendation. Jerry Kruse made the motion and Ron Steen seconded; the motion carried with all members present voting aye. The rezoning was listed on the agenda as recommended by the Planning Commission.
Separately, the board approved hiring a full-time police officer. Mark Beidleman moved the hiring authorization and Ron Steen seconded; the motion carried unanimously. The police staffing item was later referenced in committee reports as an ongoing personnel matter.
The board granted several special-event and street permits: a Community Club street permit for the Little Kid’s Halloween Parade and Trunk or Treat on Oct. 26, 2024 (11 a.m.–12:30 p.m.), a Special Event Vendor and street-use permit for the Hog Wild Smoking Competition on Oct. 19 (6 a.m.–7 p.m.) on 2nd Ave, and a street permit for Felicia’s Northern Bar Cornhole Tournament on Oct. 12 (11 a.m.–8 p.m.). The Luck Fire Department was also approved for a Special Event Vendor License and a picnic license (beer and wine) for a fundraiser for Rachel Hedberg and Brian Randall on Oct. 26 from 3 p.m.–7 p.m. All those motions passed by voice vote with board members recorded as voting in favor.
On the parks agenda, the board voted not to set up the ice-skating rink in Triangle Park; the campground item was discussed but no action was taken. The minutes record motions and votes but include no extended debate or direct quotes on these agenda items.
