Bethania to submit bridge documentation to NC DNCR; invasive-plant treatment recommended

Commissioners discussed requirements and next steps for a planned bridge replacement on Bear Creek and follow-up invasive-species work along the Nature Trails.
Commissioner Kenneth Wolff told the board that the Town needs to submit documentation to the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources for approval before the Bear Creek bridge replacement can proceed. Wolff said the deliverables should include a description of the bridge work (costs omitted) and an electronic copy of the bridge design; Mayor Brent Rockett will use those materials to submit a letter to NC DNCR.
Earlier that day Mayor Rockett and Mayor Pro Tem Michelle Leonard walked the trail with Steve Manning of Invasive Plant Control to inspect the July removal of invasive species. The minutes record Manning’s recommendation that the Town budget for heavy treatment removal over the next two years and then plan for yearly maintenance thereafter; another crew is scheduled to return next week.
The board did not vote on funding at the meeting but directed staff to obtain the electronic documentation needed for the state review and to continue coordination with Nature Trails and contractors.
