Council agrees to send Juneteenth holiday proposal to budget committee for cost analysis

Speaker 1 recommended deferring the decision to the next budget cycle and having the budget committee cost the proposal, saying the council should "put numbers on it" and include it in next year’s budget if approved.
Council members generally agreed to send the proposal to the budget committee rather than placing it on the upcoming regular meeting agenda; staff offered to provide a list of current holidays and estimated costs for comparison.
The referral means the budget committee will calculate associated premiums and, if appropriate, include Juneteenth in the FY '28 budget proposal for council consideration.
