Council delays traffic-court fee changes and coordinates e-citation ordinance for August

During Item 2, Speaker 7 (Debbie) and Speaker 8 explained they have been reviewing proposed changes to city court traffic funds and fees and that those changes overlap with an e-citation ordinance that is up for second reading.
"I don't think from what we've discussed this week that we are actually ready to move forward," Speaker 7 said, recommending another month of work and suggesting Speaker Eskew be present for legal questions in August.
Speaker 8 said several draft ordinances are written for municipalities whose courts lack general sessions jurisdiction and that Lewisburg's court does have general sessions jurisdiction, which limits the fees the city may set under state statute. "We've gone back and forth... we wanna make sure that we're charging the appropriate amounts that we can charge and the way the statute's written it," Speaker 8 said.
Council members agreed to defer the e-citation ordinance and related court-cost changes to the August work session so staff and legal counsel can reconcile statutory limits, finalize draft language and present a single consolidated ordinance.
At the next regular meeting the council will move to defer the second-reading e-citation ordinance into the August amendment so both items can be considered together.
