Maiden Rock hears planning updates, ordinance study progress and public concerns about signage and cemetery expansion

The Town of Maiden Rock received planning updates and public comments at its Nov. 10 meeting.
Carl Nelson reported that MRRPC (Mississippi River Regional Planning Commission) meetings with John Bingol and Ken Harwood are ongoing; surveys are being compiled and are expected to be completed by the next meeting on Dec. 1 and potentially mailed out with tax statements.
Judy Krohn summarized progress on an operation ordinance study: Stockholm Township will receive a draft from the study committee; a presentation was made to Trenton Township by Lisa Doerr with the full board present; Pepin Township is stepping back while it gathers additional information. The transcript records a planned organized effort to contact legislators on Nov. 12 to raise concerns identified in the study.
The board set Big Dumpster Day for May 9, 2026, from 8 a.m. to noon. Under public comment, Terry Timm said he had spoken with an Amish resident and requested signage on county roads; he also requested a Maiden Rock/Union township boundary sign. Concerns were expressed about Maiden Rock Cemetery expanding; Supervisor Allen White, who serves on the cemetery board, said he will follow up at the cemetery board’s next meeting.
No formal action on ordinance authority bonds was taken; discussion of a related resolution was held for the next month.
