The Town of Maiden Rock board approved a road-rock contract and discussed local road maintenance and a potential discontinuance of 440th Street at its July 21 monthly meeting.
Chairman Jerry F. Duden called the meeting to order at 6:32 p.m. and, after routine roll call and the pledge, the board approved the June minutes and the treasurer's report on motions from Supervisor John Danneker that were seconded by Duden. "All were in favor; Motion Carried" was recorded for both votes.
The board spent significant time on roads and maintenance. Members heard that the first round of mowing is complete, a bent sign at 50th and 250th will be repaired, and culvert replacements on 145th will be performed by Elbe's. Work to rock 76th Street near M. Collett and 100th Avenue near D. Iverson is planned for this year.
Two rock-supply bids were presented: Pierce County Highway at $10.92 per ton and Greg Bechel Trucking at $11.75 and $12.50 per ton. Danneker moved to accept the Pierce County Highway bid; Duden seconded the motion, which the board recorded as carrying unanimously.
A prospective buyer for property adjacent to 440th Street, Dylan Holes, attended and told the board he was willing to begin the town's discontinuing-maintenance process for that road if the board supported his action; the board indicated its support for him to proceed.
Clerk/Treasurer Carla R. Schuster thanked Joseph Smith and Cole Kangas for providing clerical and driving assistance while she recovered from surgery. Residents received water-testing results; during public comment Judy Krohn praised Supervisor Danneker for arranging the testing and asked whether the township or county is responsible for maintenance on CC and 50th, to which board members replied the county is responsible for that section.
Other items included a status update on an authority-bonds-for-business-loans resolution (the board will follow up with attorney Bob Loberg and revisit the resolution next month), a Planning Commission update noting county board members attended the last meeting and that the next meeting is set for Aug. 3, and a pending bid request for parking-lot blade patching while the board awaits one more bid. The meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
