Maiden Rock supervisors review inspection contract, road damage and $31,224 in local housing funds

Maiden Rock — The Town of Maiden Rock Board convened April 14, 2025, and heard updates on a contractor agreement, road repairs and local housing funds before approving the March minutes and treasurer’s report.
Todd Dolan of All Croix Inspection told the board he had identified one correction to the current inspection contract and would send a revised version the following day for the board to review and sign. The board took no formal vote on the contract pending receipt of the corrected document.
Supervisor John Danneker and Chairman Jerry F. Duden led two routine motions at the meeting. Danneker moved and Duden seconded approval of the March 2025 minutes; the board voted unanimously to accept them. A similar motion to approve the March treasurer’s report also passed unanimously.
Roads and right-of-way issues drew extended discussion after road bans were lifted earlier in the spring. Danneker reported seeing flagmen stop traffic as manure trucks staged near the Caturia grain bins and said he observed trucks moving past at rates he estimated “as many as three per minute.” He also said 11 farms in the township are listed for manure spreading covering about 1,100 acres and urged residents to report any hazardous or damaging activity. Chairman Duden said some damage has already been observed on County H/CC and flagged possible culvert problems.
Town staff said basic road maintenance work is scheduled: a patched culvert on 145th Ave, blade patching beginning in mid-May, and grading underway. Officials noted the Town Hall parking lot and 300th Ave still require work, and Cole Kangas will inspect a possible hole in a culvert on 76th Ave.
On housing, Cedar Corp reported that its RLF housing program is planned to be discontinued though no timeline was provided. Maiden Rock’s available RLF balance is $31,224; residents were encouraged to apply and a flyer with eligibility criteria was circulated at the meeting.
Public-health outreach was also discussed: Danneker said the town ordered 150 sample bottles from UW–Stevens Point for well testing (last year 45 wells were tested). The cost remains $68 per test; bottles will be distributed May 10 during Big Dumpster Day from 8 a.m. to noon.
Resident Mary Anne Wise told the board she was concerned that town chairs may hold sole approval authority for bonds issued for business loans and presented a possible resolution to change that practice. The board did not take immediate action; the matter was noted for follow-up.
Clerk/Treasurer Carla R. Schuster listed upcoming bills and correspondence and announced that the spring election on April 1 had 275 voters and that voting machines were at the fairgrounds for maintenance. She also reminded attendees that a burning ban is currently in effect and that permits are required.
Time cards were reviewed with no concerns. Danneker moved to adjourn and Duden seconded; the meeting adjourned at 7:42 p.m. Items listed for the next meeting include planning commission matters, an MRACA donation request, bids for parking-lot blade patching, Swift Current and liquor-license items.
