Knob Noster Chamber, Drew Lewis Foundation present downtown and family-support initiatives

Later in the meeting Jessica Smith of the Drew Lewis Foundation presented the RISE Program (Reaching Independence through Support and Education). Smith described RISE as "dedicated to helping families achieve long-term success by breaking free from the cycle of survival mode" and said the curriculum focuses on 16 key areas: accountability, parent training, transportation, housing, childcare, financial planning, job training, education, resolving legal issues, and health and wellbeing. The presentation noted various funding levels could be used to assist families; the transcript does not specify amounts or funding sources.
Mayor Carter asked questions about the program during the presentation. The minutes record the presentations and discussion but do not show formal board action or funding decisions on either the Chamber's proposals or the RISE program. The board proceeded to other agenda items and adjourned at 7:27 p.m.
