Troy council approves Dollar General business license amid traffic and fire‑safety concerns

Troy City Council approved a business license for Dollar General Store #30869 at a special meeting on March 3, 2025, even as council members raised concerns about local traffic patterns and whether the retailer has completed a required state fire inspection.

Councilmember Jesse Haag said he remained concerned about street traffic near the proposed store and that he had contacted the Michigan Department of Transportation for guidance; MDOT, Haag said, requested more information on turning movements. Mayor TJ Boswell and guest Blair Shupe told the council they believed a state fire inspection had not been completed and that a required fire hydrant relocation had not occurred, but it was unclear from the record whether the company or the landowner bears responsibility for those items.

The council resolved to pursue clearer city standards for new businesses.
