District administrators used the Dec. 9 board meeting to report on community assistance efforts, staff professional development and near-term operational items including audit contracting and facilities planning.
Brian Morstad told the board that 16 families received Thanksgiving dinner with donations from the county and Marion food pantries (Mama's House of Hope and St. Johns Church), that 4-H and Marion Bodyworks donated presents for 12 families, and that the American Legion donated roughly 28 fruit baskets. He also thanked community vendors, parent volunteers, FFA students and staff for the success of Santa's Workshop.
Morstad and other administrators reported that staff professional development included Act 20 literacy training and efforts to integrate standards across subject areas, and that winter Aims Web testing and Act 20 requirements have begun. Mr. Breitrick noted in-service feedback and listed upcoming extracurricular events including Quiz Bowl, forensics, ACP day testing and band concerts.
Nathan Papendorf told the board the audit report presented at the meeting concludes the current contract with Kerber Rose and that he is finalizing a new RFP to solicit audit firms for a one-, two- or three-year contract to bring forward in January or February. He also said the district received an Employer Shared Responsibility Payment (ESRP) letter from the IRS proposing $110,689.11 for 2022; after a review and disagreement response the district anticipates the accurate payment to be about $67,000 and noted it has budgeted $108,000 for the item this year.
Lee Ann Wiese announced she had completed her schooling: "My schooling is officially over and I'm now Dr. Wiese! It does not seem real!" She reported paraprofessional monthly training that reviews individual student needs and discussed ongoing Act 20 literacy training that included jr./sr. high special education teachers.
Troy Edwards added that facilities planning will move forward with a kickoff meeting with Hoffman and consultants and a walkthrough planned for Dec. 17. The board then moved into closed session to discuss personnel matters.
