Marion School Board acknowledges 2023–24 audit, approves course catalog and other routine business

The Marion School District Board of Education on Dec. 9 acknowledged receipt of the district'023 udit and approved a slate of routine business, including the 2025—ourse catalog, several vendor bids, donations and personnel hires.
School Board President John Schwartz called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. in the Marion Elementary School Library Media Center. Bruce Zillmer moved to adopt the agenda as presented; Tiffany Krueger seconded and the motion carried on a 9-0 roll-call vote of members present.
The board formally acknowledged the 2023 udit after a motion from Melissa Stuhr, seconded by Bruce Zillmer. The board also approved the minutes of the Nov. 11 regular meeting, payment of checks #33402 through #33487 (with voided checks noted) and the November 30 financial report.
On personnel matters, the board approved new hires "as presented, pending completed background checks" after a motion by Lynn Tober-Steinke and a second from Nikki Bonikowske; the motion carried with two abstentions from Melissa Stuhr and Dawn Papendorf. The minutes record the abstentions but do not provide individual vote tallies beyond that.
The board accepted donations of games from Marion Daycare and contributions from Shawano County Toys for Tots; approved bids from Rettler, Boelter and raSmith for civil engineering, food service and 3D digital scanning; and approved Start College Now applications. Tiffany Krueger moved to approve the 2025—ourse catalog; Nikki Bonikowske seconded and the motion carried.
The board approved Marion Elementary and Marion High School safety reports and the district state report card. The City of Marion field lease was approved after a motion from Tiffany Krueger and a second from Nikki Bonikowske; the minutes show Melissa Stuhr abstained on that item.
Lynn Tober-Steinke moved and Bruce Zillmer seconded a motion to schedule a special meeting for Dec. 18 at 5:00 p.m.; the motion carried. Later in the evening, School Board President John Schwartz moved that the board adjourn to closed session under Wis. Stat. 19.85(1)(c) to consider personnel matters; Tiffany Krueger seconded and the motion carried by a 9-0 roll-call vote. The board reconvened in open session at 7:41 p.m. on a motion from Bruce Zillmer, seconded by Melissa Stuhr; the minutes state no action was taken as a result of closed session.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:41 p.m. and the minutes were respectfully submitted by Dawn Papendorf, school board clerk.
