Marion School Board approves health-insurance intergovernmental agreement, charter renewal and schedules Oct. 28 budget meeting

The Marion School Board met Oct. 14 in the Marion Elementary School Library Media Center and approved a series of routine and policy items, including an intergovernmental agreement with CESA #8 for the district's health insurance consortium and the renewal of the RVA charter.
Board President John Schwartz called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. and the board adopted the agenda. On a 7-0 roll call the board approved the 66.0301 Intergovernmental Agreement with CESA #8 for the Health Insurance Consortium after a motion by Tiffany Krueger. The board also approved the Neola Board Policy Updates on first reading by roll call vote and appointed Dawn Papendorf as the WASB convention delegate.
Several routine business items passed by motion. The board approved the minutes of the Sept. 9, 2024 meeting; approved payments covering check #33175 through #33303 and ACH #242500056 through #242500099; and approved the Sept. 30, 2024 financial report. The board accepted multiple donations as presented, including school supplies from St. John's Lutheran Church, $1,000 from Premier Community Bank (via Tiffany Krueger), 300 water bottles from Delta Dental, $750 from the Shawano Optimist Club for trap, and $500 for the archery program.
On personnel matters the board approved the new hires as presented; that motion carried with Board President John Schwartz recorded as abstaining. Lynn Tober-Steinke moved and the board approved scheduling a special meeting to adopt the district budget on Monday, Oct. 28 at 5:00 p.m.
The board approved Start College Now applications and approved the RVA Charter Renewal Agreement as presented. No legal authorities (statute or ordinance citations) were referenced in the meeting minutes beyond the intergovernmental agreement label.
The board adjourned after routine reports and the scheduled business. The special budget meeting is set for Oct. 28, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. in the district; the board will return to consider the 2024-25 budget at that meeting.
