Marion School District adopts 2024-25 budget, levies $2,016,104 for operations and $300,000 for community services

The Marion School District board adopted its 2024-25 budget and tax levy during the district's annual meeting on July 22, 2024.
Business Manager Nathan Papendorf presented the proposed budget and property tax information at the public hearing. After the presentation, public commenter Debbie Mielke asked for five-year total enrollment figures, where referendum revenue is shown on the budget (page 1-8, local source 200), and how often the district is audited.
Ron Krueger, who chaired the meeting after being elected at the start of the session, read Resolution A proposing adoption of the 2024-25 budget "including $300,000 for Community Service operations including adult education, community education and recreation programs such as youth sports, open gyms, wellness centers, community resource officer, and before-and after-school programming, non-special education preschool programming, and day care or surround care services which meet the DPI's criteria for use of Community Services Fund levies." Annette Krueger moved to adopt the resolution; Debbie Mielke seconded and the motion carried with no votes opposed.
Krueger then read Resolution B: "That a tax be levied to raise $2,016,104 for the operations of the District and $300,000 for the Community Services Fund." Lynn Tober-Steinke moved to adopt Resolution B; Annette Krueger seconded. That motion also carried with no votes opposed.
The board approved a slate of routine resolutions that were also presented and approved without opposition. Those included:
- Resolution C, setting board member pay for 2024-25 at $85 per regular board or committee meeting, $20 per committee meeting held prior to a regular board meeting, $85 for a half-day and $120 for a full day for meetings outside the district, mileage paid at the current IRS rate, an extra $400 annually for the District President and the District Clerk, and a complimentary Marion School District family athletic pass.
- Resolution D, authorizing reimbursement for actual travel expenses incurred by board members when traveling outside the district in the performance of duties.
- Resolution E, empowering the board to sell or otherwise dispose of used or surplus district equipment and materials.
- Resolution F, authorizing the district to purchase, operate and maintain transportation vehicles and to purchase liability insurance for those vehicles.
- Resolution G, continuing the district's Food Services program for 2024-25.
- Resolution H, setting the 2025 annual meeting for the fourth Monday in July 2025 at 5:00 p.m.
The board approved the minutes of the July 22, 2024 annual meeting and heard a summary of district accomplishments for 2023-24. The meeting was adjourned at 6:01 p.m. The meeting minutes were signed and submitted by Onnette Kringer and Annette Krueger, the latter listed as Acting Board Clerk in the meeting record.
