The Marion Common Council on May 11 approved several personnel and administrative actions as part of routine business.
The council approved hiring Carlton Laird as a new firefighter; Alderperson Harry Faehling recorded an abstention on that motion. The council also approved promotion of Elijah Smith to Street/Park Superintendent under terms in an offer letter. The Committee of the Whole recommended, and the council approved, a contract with GRAEF for 2026 GIS migration and services. The council voted to relist a vacant lot at 239 Gerbig Road with realtor Quinn Tolan of Berkshire Hathaway at the prior listing price pending removal of debris.
The Finance Committee had reviewed bills prior to the meeting; the council approved payments and vouchers totaling $147,174.66 and approved the Treasurer's report and money transfers as presented. The minutes note that copies of the check register were available on the table.
Other routine items included reports from departments (fire, library, police, streets and water & sewer) and scheduling announcements for upcoming meetings. The council adjourned at 6:47 p.m.
