Council tables alley-vacation question and playground equipment decision for further review

At its Feb. 9 meeting the Marion Common Council tabled action on Resolution 2026-02, an intent-to-vacate-alley item, after a surveyor reported a legal-description anomaly suggesting the alley could be an easement and possibly owned by the adjacent property owner to the south.
Andrew Schultz (GRAEF), participating via Teams, told the council the survey produced an unclear ownership history and that the alley may not be city-owned. Councilmembers agreed further clarification was necessary and tabled the matter until March so ownership and any needed title work can be verified.
Separately, the council held a lengthy discussion of playground equipment options. Councilmembers did not reach a decision and referred the matter to the March committee meeting for a fuller review of options and costs.
Both items will return to committee or the full council after staff and consultants provide additional information; no final votes were taken on either matter during the Feb. 9 session.
