Chairman Keith West called the City of Marinette Board of Harbor Commission to order at 4:03 p.m. on Feb. 13, 2025, at Marinette City Hall.
The commission spent its substantive discussion on a Harbor Commission plan for the Menekaunee Harbor area, with members aiming to position the commission as the first point of contact for harbor concerns before referral to the Common Council. The group identified the South Wall as their primary maintenance concern and discussed expanding a spreadsheet to document hazards and corrective maintenance actions.
Commissioners also discussed a wildlife monitoring and reporting approach that would include a QR code linking to additional references on local wildlife and habitat structures. Alderman Tom Karban and Trygve Rhude were asked to look into a tagging and numbering system for each habitat structure to support monitoring and maintenance efforts. Chairman Keith West outlined the idea of centralizing hazard reporting and maintenance records to improve follow-up and communication with the council.
No formal action was taken on the Harbor Commission plan during the meeting. The commission did, however, approve the minutes from its Jan. 9, 2025, regular meeting: Alderman Tom Karban moved to approve the minutes, Commissioner Todd Christian seconded, and the motion carried unanimously among those present.
Alderman Karban moved to adjourn at 4:45 p.m.; Commissioner Christian seconded and all concurred. Meeting minutes were submitted by Jan Kust, mayor's assistant and community development specialist. The commission listed agenda items for its next meeting — harbor and wildlife monitoring and reporting, a spring clean-up day, and a review of statutes relating to the Harbor Commission — and said the next meeting would be scheduled at a later date.
