Marinette Harbor Commission weighs three-year guidance plan, highlights dredging and shoreline priorities

Keith West, City of Marinette Board of Harbor Commission Chairman, called the Jan. 9 meeting to order at 4:00 p.m. and led a discussion about developing a three-year guidance document to define the commission’s vision and focus areas.
Commissioners identified several potential priorities for the plan, including Menekaunee Harbor; other stretches of the Menominee River between the interstate bridge and the river mouth; dredging related to Marinette Marine; restoration of the vessel or facility referenced as the Red Arrow; and erosion at the old logging commercial dock. The topics were raised by the commission as areas for future attention; no motions were made to adopt or fund the guidance document at this meeting.
The group did adopt a routine action earlier in the meeting when Tom Karban moved, and Chairman Keith West seconded, approval of the Oct. 17, 2024 regular meeting minutes; all commissioners present concurred. Commissioners also set a tentative next meeting for Feb. 13, 2025, at 4:00 p.m.
The discussion is intended to guide commission priorities but resulted only in consensus to continue developing the idea; commissioners did not take formal action to finalize a plan or assign implementation tasks. The meeting adjourned at 4:50 p.m.
