Committee accepts routine reports, postpones remote-work policy and schedules deputy clerk interviews

The Finance, Personnel & Safety Committee accepted routine department reports and handled several administrative matters at its Jan. 6, 2026, meeting.
Rich Slate, Mayor and committee chairperson, called the meeting to order at 6:43 p.m. Committee members unanimously approved the published agenda. A motion by Pat Prill, seconded by Dennis Treimstra, sent the vouchers to the full council while flagging three questions: what a Visa bill for $771.40 covered, what a MasterCard charge of $81 covered, and confirming whether Dec. 19, 2025, was the last voucher for the Water & Sewer Department.
David Abendroth moved, and Joseph Kazda seconded, a motion to accept the Police Chief report; the committee carried the motion. Dennis Treimstra moved, and Pat Prill seconded, a motion to accept the Clerk's report; that motion carried as well.
The committee voted to postpone the Remote Work Policy discussion to the February Finance Committee meeting (motion by Pat Prill, second by Dennis Treimstra). Members discussed part-time pay increases and asked the Clerk to provide a current list of part-time employees, their wages and the date of each employee's last wage increase to the January council meeting. An overtime request from the Clerk was noted and the committee said it would address that item at the full Council meeting when the Clerk is present.
Joseph Kazda moved, with Pat Prill seconding, that interviews for the Deputy Clerk position be conducted as a Committee of the Whole; that motion carried.
The committee voted to convene into closed session under Wisconsin State Statute 19.85(1)(c) to consider employment matters for the Police Department; minutes record the motion carried by roll call vote. The committee reconvened into open session by motion of Dennis Treimstra, seconded by David Abendroth. The minutes state the committee took no action during the closed session. The meeting adjourned at 7:24 p.m.
