Markesan council approves routine claims, moves security camera item to committee and signs engagement letter

The Markesan Common Council on Nov. 11 handled routine business including approval of minutes and claims, deferred consideration of a security camera quote to committee, and approved an engagement letter with Johnson Block for year-end audit work.

On routine approvals, the council carried a motion to approve Common Council minutes from Oct. 14, 2025 (Thiem/Triemstra) and a separate motion to approve several committee minutes (Abendroth/Lager); both actions were recorded as carried 5-0. The council also approved city checks, electronic payments, direct deposits and utility payments by motion (Abendroth/Prill), carried 5-0, and filed the October 2025 Treasurer’s Report for audit by consensus.

The council voted to move an $11,462 TECC quote for security cameras — and associated accounting transfers including moving $11,462 from police wages to the police outlay account and adding $75,000 to the police outlay account — to December committee meetings for further review (motion Triemstra/Lager; carried 5-0). The minutes do not record further public comment or vendor discussion on the camera item.

Council also approved signing the Johnson Block engagement letter for the year ended Dec. 31, 2025 (motion Triemstra/Abendroth; carried 5-0). The meeting concluded with scheduling of future meetings (a Nov. 18 budget hearing and Dec. 2 committee meetings, plus Dec. 9 council) and an adjournment at 7:22 p.m.

During public comment earlier in the meeting, residents Jay and Lisa Parker raised permitting issues for their driveway and Mayor Slate agreed to have the matter heard at upcoming committee meetings. Dave Haase of Dave’s Place requested consideration of dumpster space for his restaurant; Mayor Slate agreed to place that issue on the next committee agenda.

The minutes include no recorded votes opposed to the listed actions.
