Durand council convenes closed sessions, authorizes bids for Memorial Park bandshell and accepts police officer resignation

The Durand City Council held two closed sessions during its June 10 meeting under Wisconsin statutes and took related open-session actions afterward.

At 6:35 p.m. the council voted to convene in closed session under Wis. Stat. 19.85(1)(e) to deliberate or negotiate the investing of public funds and to discuss the Memorial Park Bandshell. After the closed session ended and the council returned to open session at 6:58 p.m., the council authorized city staff to obtain bids for repairs and updates to the Memorial Park Bandshell on a motion by Matt Roesler, seconded by Travis Hooker; the motion carried.

Later the council again convened in closed session under Wis. Stat. 19.85(1)(c) to consider employment, promotion, compensation, or performance evaluation data for police department personnel; the clerk and the public works director were dismissed from that closed session portion. On reconvening at 7:23 p.m., the council accepted the resignation of Officer Brandon Bonnerup, effective June 24, 2026, and approved allowing the Bonnerup family to keep Sam, the department therapy dog. The acceptance motion was moved by Travis Hooker and seconded by Nick Weisenbeck and carried with all in favor.
