Durand council approves Roostertail liquor license and awards 6th Avenue E, water filtration contracts

The Durand City Council on March 11 approved a Class B Liquor and Class B Fermented Malt Beverage license for John Koehler, doing business as Roostertail Bar & Grill at 104/106 W. Main Street, following a brief public hearing that produced no public comments. The council approved the license by motion of Council Member Matt Roesler, seconded by Robert Weishapple.
The council also moved forward on local infrastructure projects. It awarded the 6th Avenue E construction contract to American Express Excavating for a total award of $114,249 (base bid $106,132 plus Alternate 1 of $8,117). The award was made on a motion by Travis Hooker, seconded by LeAnna Kavanaugh, and passed by roll call vote 6–0.
Separately, the council approved two contracts with Cedar Corporation. The Water Filtration Plant project contract was approved with a not-to-exceed amount of $116,000 (motion by Nick Weisenbeck, seconded by LeAnna Kavanaugh; roll call 6–0). The council also approved a Cedar Corporation contract for work related to the 6th Avenue E project not to exceed $10,900 (motion by Robert Weishapple, seconded by Matt Roesler; roll call 6–0). City Engineer officials reported that the Madison Street preconstruction meeting is set for March 17 and that the water filter plant contract and insurance have been received; 6th Avenue E contracts are ready for signatures.
Mayor Patrick J. Milliren opened the meeting and the council handled the items as routine business. Administrator Tracy Carlson and Public Works Director Matt Gilles were present; Gilles noted that a clarifier at the sewer plant needs repair and that he will attend the Rural Water Conference in Green Bay in March. No public testimony was offered on the liquor license application.
Next steps: contracts approved by the council will proceed to signature and the awarded contractor may begin work according to the project schedule and the city engineer's direction.
