Fayetteville finance staff and a school representative briefed the board on pending budget amendments and the city’s fiscal position at the July 9 work session.
The Fayetteville City Schools representative said school budget amendment No. 5 will be moved to Tuesday for approval. The finance director described budget amendment No. 14 (GL reclassifications only; no net amounts changed) and highlighted a rescue grant moving into the grant fund, a $7,000 police balance earmarked for capital needs and encumbering those funds with a purchase order, and prior bond-funded items including parks HVAC and Station 2 repairs.
Finance staff reported that the fiscal year 2027 proposed budget was submitted to the comptroller’s office on June 30 and that revenue over expenditure for the general fund was estimated in the transcript at approximately $575,000; a further spoken figure in the record was unclear. Staff said sales and local-option tax receipts for June were $347,983 (up 2.5% year over year), state share sales tax was $80,158 (up 2.9%), and occupancy tax was $9,970 (down 33.3%).
Staff explained the intention to encumber the police capital balance so it is clearly earmarked for equipment and to complete one final year-end amendment later in the fiscal cycle. The items discussed were put on the Tuesday agenda for formal action; the transcript does not include the board’s votes.
Next steps: the board will consider the school and city budget amendments at the regular meeting Tuesday and staff will provide encumbrance documentation for capital funds.
