Union City Council removes $2,690 lien, approves canoe launch and $23,600 in Renaissance grants

Union City Borough Council voted unanimously Aug. 27 to remove a $2,690 lien on a property the Erie County Landbank holds at 121 East High Street and approved several expenditures aimed at recreation and blight reduction.
The council accepted a request from the Erie County Landbank to remove the borough lien of approximately $2,690 on 121 East High Street. Councilor Kerns moved to remove or satisfy the lien for the full amount; Councilor Steadman seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
For recreation infrastructure, the council accepted a $16,679 quote from Construction Services of PA to install a canoe and kayak launch at the American Legion ball field, contingent on receipt of an easement from the American Legion. The borough engineer at The EADS Group reviewed two quotes: Blum Property Services LLC for $18,541.50 and Construction Services of PA for $16,679. Councilor Osborn moved to award the work to Construction Services of PA; Councilor Kerns seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Councilors also approved seven recommended Renaissance grant applications for the 2024–2025 period. The seven projects total $60,606 in project costs and requested $23,600 in borough Renaissance grant funding; borough records show $90,547.35 remains available in the program. Councilor Steadman moved approval of the recommended applications; Councilor Osborn seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Finally, the council passed a resolution accepting the Erie Area Council of Governments (EACOG) audit report as reviewed and accepted by COG members. Councilor Osborn moved to pass the resolution; Councilor Steadman seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
